Clinical Reactions and Effect on the Platelet Count in the Peripheral Blood After Live Attenuated Measles Virus (Lirugen) Vaccinntion

Abstract
|
|
|
Live attenuated measles virus (Lirugen) was vaccinated in 14 susceptible children.
The mean maximum rectal temperature was 100.2F, and anorexia, cough, rinorrhea were observed in some vaccinated children, but the rashes were not developed in all cases.
Total WBC count was mildly decreased 1 week after vaccination which were within normal limits.
Differential count showed that lymphocytes were increased 9 days after vaccination, segments were conversely decreased.
All vaccinated children showed a fall in platelet counts with a mean maximum fall of 69,000 and it was noted 12 days after vaccination.
Warthin-Finkeldey giant cell on the nasal or buccal mucous membrane was not present in all vaccinated children.
